Why Realistic Timelines Matter: The Truth About Kitchen & Bathroom Renovations
At Neways Group Ltd., we understand that undertaking a kitchen or bathroom renovation is an exciting step for any homeowner. It’s natural to want the process completed swiftly and with minimal disruption. However, one of the most critical aspects of a successful project, one often misunderstood or underestimated, is having realistic expectations around timelines.
It's Not Just Installation; It's the Full Journey ~ Trust the Process!
While it might be tempting to assume that a kitchen or bathroom can be fully installed in just a few days, the reality involves multiple essential stages, each requiring time, care, and sometimes legally certified specialists to complete. Let’s take a look at what a typical project entails:
1. Dismantling and Removal (1–2 Days)
The first step is carefully removing existing units, fixtures, tiles, and appliances including disposal of old units/materials according to regularly updated environmental and waste management laws. This process includes the safe disconnection of utilities, ensuring the space is properly prepared for the next phase of the process.
2. Remedial Repairs and Preparation (1–3 Days)
Once all the old fittings are out, we often uncover hidden issues (especially in older properties, and bathrooms), such as damp, uneven flooring, or outdated plumbing, that must be addressed before any new installation can begin. This is a crucial phase that sets the foundation for long-term durability. This is also one of the main reasons we recommend a contingency fund - because sometimes issues arise beyond the scope of our proposed price.
3. First Fix Plumbing & Electrics (1–2 Days)
By law, all (gas/heating related) plumbing and (all) electrical works must be carried out by qualified and certified professionals. This is non-negotiable. DIY attempts or hiring someone without the proper credentials not only poses a safety risk, they can completely null and void your home insurance. Pleading ignorance will simply not protect you if the worst happens.
At Neways, we have a fully vetted (qualified and insured) team of employees and only use registered specialist tradespeople. As a TrustMark Registered, Trading Standards Approved, and Master Builder Accredited company, we take compliance and safety seriously. Your peace of mind is part of our promise.
4. Painting and Finishes (1–2 Days)
While most people will leave painting to last, we often recommend completing painting before kitchen or bathroom units are installed to protect surfaces and avoid additional mess. Any necessary touch-ups can be done afterwards, but this proactive step preserves the pristine condition of your new space.
5. Installation of New Units (3–5 Days)
Once these foundational steps have been taken, the main installation process is then able to commence, carried out by our specialist fitters. Depending on the complexity, scale and scope of your project, (bespoke features, or appliance integration), the time it takes to complete this phase can vary, but we never rush. Precision and finish are everything.
6. Final Fix and Testing (1–2 Days)
Then it’s on to finalising plumbing, electrical connections, testing appliances, sealing, and detailed clean-up to ensure everything is not only functional but finished to our exacting standards.
Total Estimated Timeframe: 7 to 14 Working Days
Depending on the scale of work and any bespoke elements, this is the realistic timeline we provide and base our pricing proposals on. Any promises to complete a full kitchen or bathroom installation in anything less than 7 -14 days, are either missing essential stages, or cutting legal and safety corners . Or worse (which is something we see far too often in this industry), under estimating the timeframe and cost solely to “win” the work, and then taking longer and charging more. We find this practice highly unethical.
Finally, we appreciate that seeking recommendations and advise from friends, family and neighbours feels safe, BUT:
Don’t Rely on “Well-Meaning” Advice
Friends, family, and neighbours may mean well when sharing their own renovation stories or shortcuts. However, many are simply unaware of the legal regulations, insurance implications, and technical complexities involved. At Neways, we’re not trying to scare or "upsell"; we’re here to educate and protect.
Our commitment is to transparency, not quick wins. We don’t cut corners, make false promises, or agree to unrealistic timelines just to win a job.
